The St. Thomas Tyke & Novice Select Tournament was held at the Timken Centre in St. Thomas, Ontario on February 24-26, 2017. The tournament was sponsored by Boston Pizza, and host to forty-two Tyke and Novice teams. Hosted over three arenas, five ice pads, and three days, this event was buzzing with youth hockey players and their fans. With so many teams participating, the arena was busy from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with no shortage of excitement!
Tyke and Novice are really fun age divisions to photograph. There’s always something happening other than the hockey game. There’s also a very different atmosphere on the players’ bench when photographing younger divisions. The coaches job description gets a little longer with having to reexplain which side of the rink is left or right when the teams switch sides at the end of a period, or when players have to come off the ice in the middle of a shift to go to the bathroom!
I captured close to ten thousand images over the weekend so I found it really hard to just choose ten images for this post. So, out of over 8,600 images we captured over the weekend, here is the St. Thomas Tyke & Novice Tournament Top Ten (with five extra!):
15. Slide Save
12. Flying Saucer
11. The Man!
10. Where’d It Go?
9. Water Break
5. One on One
3. I Got This
2. Group Shot
1. Happy Hockey
