Sarnia March Break Tournament – Image of the Week

The Tournament – March Break Tournament

The SHA March Break Tournament was held at the Clearwater Arena in Sarnia, ON on March 14-16th to kick off the March break. The tournament was host to twenty-four house league teams in the Novice and Peewee divisions, mostly from Sarnia, Petrolia and West Lorne. This is our second time photographing the action in Sarnia and also our second time working with John Ritchie, one of the most organized and efficient tournament directors we know.

The Image

Here is the SHA March Break Tournament Image of the Week. This week, once again, I’ve gone for the cutest photo of the tournament. I love how excited the players get when they score a goal but mostly I love the support and encouragement they get from their teammates and coaches. The team aspect of hockey is one of the most important aspects of the sport and it can have such a positive effect on a child’s self esteem and development.

The Settings

The Clearwater Arena has recently undergone some renovations which include new lights being placed over the rink. This is a huge advantage for me as I have more wiggle room with my camera settings. This image was shot at f2.8, 1/1250, and ISO 4000.

Intro to ‘Top 10’

Starting this week, Julie Whelan Photography will be posting our ‘Top 10’ photographs from each tournament. There is still the Image of the Week, which is our favourite photograph from the entire tournament. But now parents and players have a chance to view the tournament’s best images and even share them on Facebook for their friends and family to see.
